It's summertime! During this time of the year, we tend to get occupied by work life and social life causing us to not spend enough time thinking about our own health and wellness.
Here are some tips to help you prosper this summer.
Whether it's outside, at home, or at the gym, it is very important for us to try and workout at a minimum of 3 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour at a time. This gets our blood pumping, strengthens our heart and lungs, our skin and most importantly, it releases endorphins which are great for our mental health.
Even though exercise is very important, eating healthy can cause a dramatic shift in mood and body health. Many people assume that they can get their “desired” body by going to the gym 5 days a week, which is completely untrue. Our bodies are highly influenced by the things we choose to eat over long periods of time. Eating healthier will also make occasional treats much more special and exciting.
Every day, our brains are overloaded with information and emotions. This is why it is important to meditate. Meditation can help clear your mind and it promotes heightened emotional health. Without meditation, we let our anxiety pile up, and we tend to be less self-aware. Next time you come home from work with nothing to do, find a quiet place with no distractions, sit down, and practice meditation. It’s a great way to detox your brain and give yourself a light and warm feeling.
Write your feelings, stories, ideas down in a journal. This is a great method for clearing your mind (like meditation) and it also allows you to go back on old entries and see your personal progress in life. Journals are perfect for getting things off your chest whether you had a hard day at work or achieved a milestone in your life. Having a journal is like having a really quiet best friend that will never share your secrets.
If asked, I’m sure most homeowners would say that they feel better/happier when they are living in a clean space. Psychologists have been studying the connection between cleanliness and mental health for a long while now. Believe it or not, cleaning and decluttering your space can be a great way to relieve some stress and improve your day. Messy spaces and bad personal hygiene can lead to heightened feelings of stress and anxiety which hinders your mental health in the long run. By keeping yourself and your surroundings clean you are actually helping your own mood.
A quick call with a family member or friend can change a person’s mood instantly. As life goes by, we are habitually forgetting to call the people most important to us. Whether we are having a good or a bad day, those we love will always be there to support us. By giving them a call, you are sure to make their day as well as your own.
